The Unfolding Arab Revolutions will be the topic of a presentation by Asef Bayat on Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 12-1 p.m. in the Bone Student Center First Floor West Lounge. The event is free and open to the public.
Bayat is a professor of sociology and Middle East studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on social movements, Islam and the modern world and international development. Bayat’s recent books include Making Islam Democratic: Social Movements and the Post-Islamist Turn, Life as Politics: How Ordinary People Change the Middle East and (with Linda Herrera) Being Young and Muslim: Cultural Politics in the Global South and North.
Bayat’s presentation is part of Illinois State University’s International Studies Seminar Series exploring topics in global politics and culture. The seminar series is organized by the Unit for International Linkages, Office of International Studies and Programs, and the Women’s and Gender Studies Program.
