Recent Illinois State education alumni who will be completing as few as one, and as many as four semesters of teaching this spring are encouraged to come back to their Alma Mater for the New Teacher Conference (#NTConISU), Friday, June 26 in the State Farm Hall of Business. The conference is free to attend, but hurry, registration closes June 15!
Among the presenters are Associate Professor Michael Vetere from the School of Theatre and Dance and Greg Michie, a former teacher educator at Illinois State University who returned to teach in Chicago Public Schools.
Michie also serves as a senior research associate at the Center for Policy Studies and Social Justice at Concordia University and is a prolific researcher and author in the field of education. His latest publication is We Don’t Need Another Hero: Struggle, Hope, and Possibility in the Age of High-Stakes Schooling. His other works include Holler If You Hear Me: The Education of a Teacher and his Students, now in its second edition, and See You When We Get There: Teaching for Change in Urban Schools.
Michie will give two presentations at #NTConISU including: Curriculum as window and mirror: Making connections to students’ lives and concerns and Teaching in the undertow: How to hold on to your beliefs and values in the age of high-stakes reform.
