As university instructors, we learn to adapt to different classroom experiences, and different classroom strategies help us adapt more effectively. Come to the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology this week to identify different improvisational exercises to use in the classroom that promote active learning. Plus, distinguish tactics you can use in the classroom to create a more inclusive and diverse classroom.

Improv in the Classroom
Monday, June 1 • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Learn to embrace a novel method of teaching and student learning through the power of improv! In this workshop, you will participate in improvisational exercises that can connect students to course content in new and stimulating ways. You will develop practical strategies to apply improv techniques to your specific classes, to help students develop creativity, problem-solving, and adaptation skills.
Camtasia: Level 1
Tuesday, June 2 • 1–4 p.m.
Do you want to add your voice to a PowerPoint presentation and make it available to your students online? Learn to use Camtasia, a screen-recording program that lets you narrate PowerPoint presentations, still images, or videos. You will also learn how to upload the final product so students can access it.
Reinvent Your Course for Diversity
Wednesday, June 3 • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A campus that is deliberate about creating inclusive learning environments can also be more successful at recruiting and retaining students from underrepresented populations. In this series of workshops, participants will reflect on their course content and explore ways in which that content is meeting the needs of the diverse student population at Illinois State University. Faculty will develop their courses to foster an inclusive learning environment and to help themselves and their students develop more nuanced cultural understanding. This cohort will also participate at the Course Design Showcase on August 5, 2015, at the Alumni Center. A $500 stipend is available to eligible participants who complete the program. Please note: Due to limited seating you will be automatically waitlisted for this cohort, but will be notified when you are actively registered. This workshop meets on June 3, June 17, July 8, and July 22. However you only need to register for the 6/3 session.
