ReggieNet Communication
Monday, July 20 • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Learn how the communication tools provided with ReggieNet can be used to encourage student interaction. You will be introduced to Discussion, Chat Rooms, Course Mail, and the Email Tool. You will also learn how to choose the right tool for specific instructional situations. Prerequisite: Introduction to ReggieNet.
When Students Can’t Write
Monday, July 20 • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
We’ve all heard the lament, “My students can’t write!” This leads to two questions: What are the best practices in supporting developing writers? How can I incorporate these practices into my teaching and still have time to teach the content? This discussion, spanning two sessions, explores ways to use writing assignments to engage students and increase their motivation to do well. Learn about best practices in writing assignments and how to apply them to students’ work. Participants who successfully complete both sessions will receive a $200 stipend. Please note: This workshop meets on July 20 and 27, but you only need to register for the July 20 session.
Keep Students Motivated

Go beyond the stick-and-carrot method to motivate your students! This workshop addresses student motivation and student self-determination in different classroom settings. You will redesign assignments and class activities in keeping with best practices known to impact student self-motivation, designed to foster high quality motivation crucial to our students’ long-term success and psychological needs. Photoshop CS6: Part 2
Tuesday, July 21 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Continuing from Photoshop CS6: Part 1, we will take a look at some of the most useful tools and techniques in Photoshop. Learn better ways to make selections, work with layers, and other subjects. There is no prerequisite, so join us even if you miss Part 1.
OneDrive and Office 365 for Mobile
Tuesday, July 21 • 1 to 4 p.m.
Take your projects on the go using Microsoft Office apps for iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices. Premium features found in these apps are now available to Illinois State faculty and staff for free as part of the Office 365 software suite. This workshop will get you started working with the mobile versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote. You will also explore OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud-based storage, also free for members of the campus community. Learn how to share documents through OneDrive and discuss how this service within the boundaries of Illinois State data security policies and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). Bring your smartphone or tablet with you to get the most out of this workshop.
ReggieNet Content and Organization
Wednesday, July 22 • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Explore several ways to organize course materials in ReggieNet, including the Lesson Builder and Calendar tools. You will also learn how to integrate multimedia content. This course will also briefly discuss organizing content in other ReggieNet features, such as the Resources and Materials and Web Content tools. Prerequisite: Introduction to ReggieNet.
Engaging the Online Learner
Thursday, July 23 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
What motivates students to participate in online learning activities? How can teachers take advantage of these perspectives? This half-day workshop will help you identify research-based best practices for maximizing learner interaction and engagement. It includes an overview of statistical data about online learning programs and courses.
