Alternative Breaks (AB) are a great way of getting involved and making a difference through community service. AB is a student-run organization supported by Leadership and Community Connections. This organization hosts local, national, and global service trips to help meet the needs of communities.
Leadership and Community Connections graduate assistant Josh Marron says, “We engage students to take part in strong, direct service while learning more about social justice and the impact civic engagement can have on the world around us.” The main goal of AB is to encourage participants and leaders to step outside of their own life experiences and devote passion and empathy into service learning work.
Marron is excited about this year’s trips that will address a number of different social justice topics, including youth empowerment in the STEM fields and general education, environmental restoration, and low-income home restoration.
Applications are available through October 9 for Alternative Spring Break. For more information, contact Leadership and Community Connections at (309) 438-7346.
