Diversity Advocacy is excited to announce a new program to promote cultural awareness on campus. Strange Like Me will be held on Monday, September 21 from 6-8 p.m. in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center.
This program is a dramatic dialogue that will stimulate discussion among students about the complexities of diversities regarding race, sexism, and homophobia. Strange Like Me demonstrates the ugliness of hate and follows six students as they attempt to navigate the terrain of multicultural campus relationships.
“This event is exceedingly important, especially on a campus like ISU’s that values diversity,” said Ariana Taylor, a graduate assistant in Diversity Advocacy. “It is not enough to have diversity in numbers; we also need diversity in practice. With student populations diversifying more and more every year, learning to work with people from various backgrounds and being inclusive of people that are different is no longer just a social skill, but a necessary life skill.”
