With the aim of increasing a public dialogue about sexual violence, Illinois State University will host a screening of the film The Hunting Ground, at 6 p.m. Monday, September 14, in Schroeder Hall, room 130. The event is free and open to the public.
The Hunting Ground is a documentary that explores the issue of sexual assault on college campuses across the country. It features students, parents, faculty, police, administrators, and Title IX standards.
Following the screening of the film, there will be a panel discussion including Gail Trimpe-Morrow, Student Counseling Services; Aaron Woodruff, University Police; Jessica Norris, Office of Equal Opportunity, Ethics, and Access (OEOEA); Gina Stinnet, president of Student’s Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence; and a representative from Stepping Stones, YWCA.
The panelists will facilitate discussion and respond to questions from the audience about the larger issue of sexual assault in communities and on college campuses. Panelists will also talk about resources available to students, how to change college campus cultures, and reflect on reactions to the film.
Women’s and Gender Studies, Health Promotion and Wellness, Student Counseling Services, and OEOEA are partnering together to sponsor the event. For more information, contact Mandy Dartt at 438-2947.
