Assistant Professor Taeok Park is a new faculty member of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Park’s research interests include swallowing and the pathologies of swallowing that involve temporal and biomechanical characteristics. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in South Korea at Hallym University. She was able to gain clinical experience at the Seoul National University Hospital. In 2015, Park received her Ph.D. from Ohio University.
Park’s interest in the field was sparked while attending a workshop on swallowing disorders that was held in South Korea. At the workshop, she met her future mentor and was encouraged to study in the United States.
Park is teaching an undergraduate course regarding the anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanism. At the graduate level, she is teaching a course concerning the evaluation and management of dysphagia. When interviewed, Park stated that she loves all of her students and colleagues at Illinois State. When asked about her main goal regarding teaching, she replied, “I really want to help my students become successful clinicians.”
