On October 20, students from the Information Technology (IT) Themed Living-Learning Community (TLLC) (Hewett Hall’s 17th floor) traveled to East Peoria to attend the CIAN GoSecure Seminar on network and information security. The seminar focused on processes organizations can use to better secure their networks and protect sensitive information of employees and clients. Students learned how to spot the weakest link in a system, enable warnings to detect potential threats to security, and determine which threats are the most important to prevent.
Professionals from companies such as Log Rhythm and Packet Power gave presentations, and students were able to experience demonstrations of various security tools, including covert Pineapples, undercover Turtles, listening Llamas, and malicious Rubber Duckys. Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to mingle with cybersecurity professionals.
Illinois State offers a variety of academic and special interest Themed Living-Learning Communities. The goal of the TLLC program is to provide students with opportunities for personal growth through academic and social programs specific to the theme of each floor.
