The Latin American and Latino/a studies program would like to introduce the Latin American Theatre Association (LATA), a new registered student organization at Illinois State. Founded this past semester, LATA promotes education and advocacy of Latino/a and Hispanic Theatre by promoting and performing theatre pieces by Latino/a artists.
This spring, the group will be producing The Sun Serpent by José Cruz González. The piece was selected to educate about conquest, involve the local Latino community, and share theatre access with those with special needs and disabilities. There will be two matinee performances that are specifically sensory-friendly for Seedling Theatre and EPIC, local organizations serving special needs populations.
Looking to the future, next year LATA will sponsor a traveling performance of Antígona Furiosa by Griselda Gambaro, with hopes to eventually spread the word at the Black and Latino Male Summit and the Women/Gender Studies conference.
Congratulations to LATA, for the hard work put into developing the organization and opportunities! LATA is a great asset to ISU and our local Latino Community!
This is so exciting!! Congratulations. When/where can I find more information about the performance? I would LOVE to take my students!
Thanks for the interest!
