A message from Ann Beck, professor and chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD):
Dear friends of Communication Sciences and Disorders,
Last fall was another productive semester for CSD. Several of our faculty and students won prestigious awards and honors: Heidi Harbers was named a 2016 Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA) Fellow; Jennifer Friberg was the recipient of the Dr. John Chizmar and Dr. Anthony Ostrosky Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award; Hua Ou was granted the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s (ASHA) Advancing Academic-Research Careers Award; and one of our third year Au.D. students, Elaine Kim, was a recipient of ASHA’s Minority Student Leadership Program.
Our faculty, supervisors, and students are also involved in a number of exciting and innovative projects. Just a few of these are the increase in the number of study abroad opportunities offered to our students, our involvement in an interprofessional student learning experience with Mennonite College of Nursing, and the fact that we just finished a complete revision of our master’s program in speech-language pathology.
The Student Advisory Board writes articles that showcase our stories and they have selected a few to be published in this newsletter. We hope you will enjoy reading these articles and that you will visit our website to learn more about what is going on in CSD!
Sincerely,
Ann Beck, Ph.D.
Chair and Professor
