Illinois State University Housing Services has rescheduled the Black History Cultural Dinner featuring Giancarlo Esposito. The new date will be at 5 p.m. Monday, April 11, in the Brown Ballroom of the Bone Student Center.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here, beginning March 26. Tickets are available online only until April 6, and will not be sold at the door.

An actor and producer, Esposito is also recognized for his efforts in giving back to the student community. During his visit, Esposito will discuss the collegiate student’s main nonacademic responsibility: To get to know people who are different than you.

Attendees will learn more about why the “theater of college” is a microcosm of the world, which offers students a unique and valuable opportunity to learn about themselves, gain compassion for others, and make connections that make a difference. Esposito will also explain the parallels between Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing, which debuted in 1989 and the racial tensions that still exist today almost 27 years later.

Esposito is a celebrated television, film, and stage actor, whose career spans decades and includes more than 60 films. Television audiences know him best for his iconic portrayal of drug kingpin Gustavo “Gus” Fring in AMC’s award-winning series Breaking Bad, for which he won the 2012 Critics Choice Award and earned a 2012 Emmy nomination. Other notable roles include Spike Lee films such as School Daze and Do The Right Thing, as well as Rabbit Hole, The Usual Suspects, Smoke, and The Last Holiday.

Dinner guests will enjoy a meal catered by Illinois State University Dining Services that will include a “taste of home cooking” with a flare of spices and savory flavors.

The event is organized by University Housing Services, Campus Dining Services, Association of Residence Halls, Hewett-Manchester Student Association, and East Campus Diversity Coalition.
