Noga Kadman, an Israeli researcher in the field of human rights and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, will give a talk titled “Erased from Space and Consciousness: Israel and the Depopulated Palestinian Villages of 1948” at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center at Illinois State University.

The talk, sponsored by the Department of Geography-Geology, is free and open to the public.
Kadman will explore how Israelis viewed the dramatic transformation in the landscape and demography of Israel after the 1948 war, as hundreds of Palestinian villages throughout the country were depopulated, and for the most part physically erased. She will focus on the “most ordinary, everyday encounters of Israelis with the memory of the villages, their representations, and their physical remains.”
Author of Erased from Space and Consciousness: Israel and the Depopulated Palestinian Villages of 1948, Kadman is also the co-editor of Once Upon a Land: A Tour Guide to Depopulated Palestinian Villages and Towns (published in Hebrew and Arabic).
