Illinois State students will exhibit art they created using sustainable materials April 21 the day before Earth Day. Faculty, staff, and students are welcomed to attend this event, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Rosa Parks Room in Watterson Towers.
The idea for the Sustainability Art Show came from a group of students brainstorming different ways to celebrate Earth Day on April 22 and promote sustainability awareness. Once the idea was put in place, Vice President and Sustainability Liaison for Watterson Area Government Collin Marcum began working with art professors to promote the opportunity with their students.
The theme for this year’s art show came from a quote by Annie Leonard, an American supporter of sustainability, “There is no such thing as ‘away.’ When we throw anything away it must go somewhere.”

Exhibits will include 2-D and 3-D artwork as well as some installment pieces from seven different artists, said Natalie Alexander, advisor to sustainability chairs of area governments and diversity coalitions.
“As someone who is fascinated with sustainability, it will be inspiring to witness other students’ love for the subject,” Marcum said.
The sustainability committee planned the event. The group comprises students Drew Kopfman, Collin Marcum, and Megan Asher as well as their advisor, Natalie Alexander.
Participants will be receiving a thank you gift, and the top three exhibits will receive a Levin Solstar 5000mAh Solar Charger, Alexander said.
