Illinois State’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) was extremely pleased to learn that one of our undergraduate students, Jackie Durnil, was recognized as a Bone Scholar!
Being designated a Bone Scholar is the highest honor an Illinois State undergraduate student can receive. Ann Beck, chair of CSD, said, “Jackie is truly a stellar student who richly deserves this award. She is an intelligent and caring student who shows clear leadership skills in the department. I know she will do great things in her life.”
Durnil is a CSD major with minors in English and Spanish. In addition to her academic work, Durnil has been highly involved in the ISU Honors program. She was a member of the CSD Student Advisory Board her junior year and has partnered with CSD faculty on Honors projects.
Durnil spent the summer of 2015 studying in Avila, Spain, and she volunteers with Partners in Reading and Redbird Readers during the school year.
“Being awarded the Bone Scholarship was recognition I never thought I would receive,” Durnil said. “I’m so incredibly blessed for every opportunity that has come my way and for the people that have supported me through all my endeavors at ISU.”
