Illinois State University Police Chief Aaron Woodruff has been selected to attend a White House 21st Century Policing briefing on Friday, July 22. Woodruff will be among a group of law enforcement officials from across the nation specially chosen to participate in the briefing on policing best practices.
The briefing, based on the final report of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing, will focus on improving relations between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. The task force report covers issues such as building trust within the community, law enforcement policy and oversight, the use of technology and social media, community policing and crime reduction, officer training and education, and officer wellness and safety.
“The White House briefing will be an opportunity to learn from some of the top law enforcement officials and policymakers in the United States,” said Woodruff. “The Illinois State University Police Department places a high value on building trust within the campus and local communities. Ongoing training and education for our officers is a top priority. That’s important at any time, but especially so when police and community relations have been in the spotlight in the wake of high-profile incidents in states across the nation.”
