The fall’s first Conversando Entre Nosotros (Conversations Among Us) will feature a speaker on postcolonial homophobia.

The talks kick off at 1 p.m. Friday, September 23, with Assistant Professor of Anthropology Erin Durban-Albrecht presenting “Documenting Postcolonial Homophobia: U.S. Imperialism and the Daily Lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Other Queer Haitians” in Williams Hall, room 313.
The talk is part of the LALS Brown Bag series.
Durban-Albrecht will outline a theory of postcolonial homophobia through contemporary anthropological scholarship and postcolonial queer theory. The talk responds to Don Kulick’s “Can There Be an Anthropology of Homophobia?” (2009) that asks how anthropologists, and social scientists more broadly, might best come to understand the ways that homophobic social structures have been globalized.
