The Illinois State University Planetarium will present Dinosaurs at Dusk at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 7, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 8. This is a single-weekend event and will not be offered again.
The fast-paced show follows the adventures of a father and his teenage daughter Lucy, who share a fascination for all things that fly. They travel back in time, navigating from continent to continent, exploring an Earth teeming with pterosaurs and the ancestors of modern-day birds—the feathered dinosaurs.
Their travels take them through the Triassic, Jurassic, and the Cretaceous geologic periods. They soar the ancient skies with Quetzalcoatlus, escape from raptors, and race across the deserts behind Argentinosaurus. They hike through rain forests, scale ice cliffs, sail over primordial oceans, and parachute into a vast sinkhole in their search for the first flying animals. When time runs out, they experience first-hand the cataclysmic last day of the dinosaurs.
Showings of Dinosaurs at Dusk will be followed by a tour of the current evening sky under the Planetarium dome. The presentations will highlight the bright stars, constellations, and planets visible from Central Illinois.
