Get an overview on this presentation software’s basic tools and functions. You will learn to work with text, images, slide layouts, backgrounds, slide transitions, and more. This class is suitable for those who are entirely new to PowerPoint or for those who would like a refresher. Registration is required.

OneDrive and Office 365 for Mobile
Thursday, September 8 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Take your projects on the go using Microsoft Office apps for iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices. Premium features found in these apps are now available to Illinois State faculty and staff for free as part of the Office 365 software suite. This workshop will get you started working with the mobile versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote. You will also explore OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud-based storage, also free for members of the campus community. Learn how to share documents through OneDrive and discuss how to use this service within the boundaries of Illinois State data security policies and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). Bring your smartphone or tablet with you to get the most out of this workshop. Registration is required.

Creating Articles for News.IllinoisState

Learn how to use the News.IllinoisState.edu content management system, powered by WordPress, to add news articles, tag them to feed to multiple locations (including your website), insert images, photo galleries, and more. This workshop is open to faculty and staff only. Registration is required.

Introduction to ReggieNet – Part 2
Thursday, September 8 • 1 to 4 p.m.

Learn to create a variety of learning activities using built-in tools such as Forums, Tests & Quizzes, and Assignments. Forums can promote student interaction with each other and the course material. The Assignment tool permits online submission and grading of student work. Finally, you will learn to use Tests & Quizzes for various types of assessments. Prerequisite: Introduction to ReggieNet – Part 1. Registration is required.

La CAUSA: Supporting Undocumented Student Achievement and Success
Friday, September 9 • 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Bone Student Center, Prairie Room

A seminar aimed for P-16 educational professionals who want to learn more about laws, policies, and educational practices necessary to support undocumented students. This seminar will consist of three key components: undocumented student testimonios, an overview of the challenges encountered by undocumented students, and a discussion of key policies such as DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents). Outcomes will include a list of resources and best practices. This is free and open to elementary, secondary and higher education professionals. Seating is limited, so registration is required.

Future Professors Development Circle
Friday, September 9 • 10 to 11 a.m.

Explore pedagogical issues, effective and disruptive teaching strategies, and gain confidence in your ability to teach at the college level. This professional development circle helps graduate students to teach in the academy, whether they are currently teaching, working as a teaching assistant, or considering teaching as a career path. Share teaching tips, tricks, and get support from other future professors. Although the topic of each meeting will be based on chapters in the award-winning book, What the Best College Teachers Do (Harvard UP, 2004), there are no “required” readings. No registration necessary.
