Keith Habersberger ’08 is an Illinois State alumnus on the rise. A School of Theatre and Dance graduate, Habersberger is an entertainer and a development partner with BuzzFeed Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. Though you haven’t seen him on television or on the big screen, he’s found immense popularity as a viral video star.
Habersberger specializes in producing short “person-on-the-street” videos that are viewed through top video sharing sites. The videos are typically unscripted and highlight his improv and comedic talent. Keith thrives under these conditions of creative freedom. His ability to take a trending cultural topic to a hilarious new level has made him an internet sensation in just a few short years. Habersberger’s Twitter account (@KeithHabs) currently has more than 130,000 followers and his Facebook page is approaching half-a-million likes.
Over the summer, Habersberger returned to campus to participate in a colloquium with the School of Theatre and Dance. While on campus, Habersberger took to the Quad to speak with students about what they like most about Illinois State University. Here are some of the answers.
“We’re really excited to share these videos with current and prospective students,” said Director of Admissions Jeff Mavros. “Keith has a huge fan base and is especially popular among high school and college students—the exact group we’re hoping to reach. His participation and that of other recognizable alumni, like Jane Lynch and Sean Hayes, helps draw attention to Illinois State and reach a larger audience.”
