Illinois State Alumni Relations is excited to announce the launch of a virtual book club focused on professional development and personal growth for Illinois State Redbirds. The group will be an online community where alumni can connect with each other and enjoy books on professional topics such as business, communications, leadership, productivity, and more. Participation is free for all alumni.
Appears InThe first book will start February 12, so make sure to join before then to get in on the first read.
How it works
This online book club for alumni will cover a range of professional development and personal growth topics. The book club will connect through a private LinkedIn Group where people can discuss the current book and network with each other. Joining the book club is free for alumni; participants just have to get a copy of the book to enjoy. The group will read a new book every two months. If a particular book isn’t of interest during a session, one simply does not have to read it.
Why join?
There are three main reasons Illinois State hopes alumni will be excited to participate in its alumni book club:
- Connect with fellow alumni no matter the location: Want to connect with intelligent, driven, and interesting people? Joining the book club will introduce Illinois State alumni across industries, generations and geographies to help improve networks.
- Advance careers: A professional book club enhances careers by making participants more effective in areas critical to success like leadership, communication and productivity.
- Reading is good for you: Did you know people who read at least seven business books per year earn over 230 percent more than people reading just one book per year? Or that reading improves your intelligence and reasoning ability and has been linked to reducing the chance of Alzheimer’s? Joining the Illinois State book club encourages all to read more and enjoy all the benefits that come with it.
