Illinois State student-athletes were successful both on the field of competition and in the classroom during the fall semester, as Redbird Athletics set a number of records for academic success.
A record number of student-athletes were named to the AFNI Honor Roll, as a total of 312 students posted a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better during the fall semester. Illinois State’s men’s tennis and women’s golf teams claimed the team GPA titles, with marks of 3.58 and 3.70, respectively. As a whole, male student-athletes set a departmental GPA record with a 3.06 combined GPA, across seven sports. The departmental GPA of 3.22 came in just short of the record of 3.23, set last spring.
The gymnastics and volleyball teams set new program records, with GPAs of 3.69 and 3.68, while the Redbird baseball team matched its previous GPA record of 3.26. The Illinois State football team set a new in-season record with a 2.93 GPA.
Additionally, four teams placed their entire rosters on the AFNI Honor Roll: men’s tennis, women’s golf, gymnastics, and women’s tennis.
