Worrying about not getting a job after graduation? Wondering about resources to help you get the job you want? These are common questions you may be asking once the time to graduate gets closer.
The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) unit in the Office of International Studies and Programs at Illinois State University will be offering an opportunity to help students begin their search for job opportunities after graduation. ISSS will be taking Illinois State University international students to The Chicago International Student Career Fair (CISCF) on Wednesday, April 12. The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at DeVry University’s Chicago Campus at 3300 North Campbell Avenue.
The Chicago International Student Career Fair will provide a platform for international students to meet companies interested in international talent. This is a great way to connect with Chicagoland employers interested in meeting with international students. The CISPC is the place to network with potential employers no matter what students are searching for, including internships, Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), or other employment opportunities.
In order to attend, students will need to register with ISSS and register with CISCF. If students fail to register with both, they will not be allowed to attend. The deadline to sign up is March 24. All students attending the fair must dress professionally and bring copies of their resume or business cards.
In order to prepare for this fair, the Career Center and ISSS are co-hosting the International Student Career Series throughout the semester to provide international students with tips on how to land the job or internship they hope for. Students can also have their resume critiqued by Career Center professionals at Illinois State before the fair by appointment or during drop-in hours.
The following workshops will take place at 4 p.m. in 110P Student Services Building:
- February 23, Insider Tips on Cultural Differences & Succeeding in Internships: Panel discussion will take place with employers and current Illinois State international students.
- March 30, Life after OPT: Guest speaker is Thomas J. Arkell, local practicing attorney who specializes in immigration law.
All of these events are free and are open to Illinois State international students. For more information or to request a special accommodation, contact Rachel Webb, of the Office of International Studies and Programs, or Maureen Roach, of the Career Center.
