The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology will offer faculty more opportunities to participate in its Respond to Challenging Moments and Foster Mutually Respectful Dialogue workshop. This one-hour event helps instructors cope with a recent rise in hostile and polarizing comments in class, while also ensuring students learn in a safe and inclusive environment.
“The already deep divisions we’ve seen across the nation continue to widen,” said Mayuko Nakamura, one of the workshop facilitators. “These divisions, and the passion, sometimes hostility, they can cause, are coming up in classroom discussions on our campus. They cannot and should not be ignored.”
Workshop participants will explore ways to regain control of conversations about controversial topics, strategies for dealing with harmful speech, and methods for ensuring students see each other as real people. Participants will also learn about support services available on campus.
These workshops are open to tenured faculty, non-tenure-track faculty, A/P and civil service staff members, and graduate assistants with teaching responsibilities. Registration is required. Use the links below to sign up for a session:
