Over the weekend of January 21 and 22, members of Fraternity and Sorority Life headed to Lake Williamson Christian Center for their annual President’s Retreat. Members who attended this weekend event serve as a chapter president or hold a leadership position on one of the three governing councils at Illinois State, including the College Panhellenic Council (CPC), Interfraternity Council (IFC), and Multicultural Greek Council (MGC).

The retreat included a variety of different activities in order to breakdown communication barriers between individual chapters and governing councils. Activities included team building and leadership exercises.

MGC president Emily Quirarte had a fun and unique experience compared to past leadership retreats she has attended. In addition to learning more about IFC and CPC, Quirarte also says, “I enjoyed being surrounded by those in the same community as I am; the retreat overall built a stronger bond.”

John Geary, the vice president for public affairs of IFC, also reflected on the lasting impact of the retreat.

“We put our heads together and we brainstormed ideas on how we could work together to make our Greek community closer,” Geary said. “This retreat helped us set the bar for the expectations of the Greek life executive boards.”

Setting these expectations for the executive boards was another primary focus of the President’s Retreat. The Fraternity and Sorority Life staff looks forward to continuing their work with these student leaders throughout this year.
