Milner Library is investigating the development of a technology space in the library. Because Milner is committed to building a space that meets the needs of the Illinois State University community, staff and faculty members have been talking with on- and off-campus partners about makerspaces and other new technological spaces in the library. They have also taken site visits on and off campus, including trips to Champaign-Urbana, Chicago, and more.
The library is now seeking input from faculty, staff, and students in a series of open forums where food and drink will be served. They will be held in the southwest corner of the library’s main floor on the following dates and times:
Undergraduate Students
Monday, April 17–7 p.m.
Thursday, April 20–7 p.m.
Graduate Students
Tuesday, April 18–7 p.m.
Wednesday, April 19–7 p.m.
Faculty and Staff
Friday, April 21–noon
Monday, April 24–noon
Though there is a desire not to limit possible feedback, the following has been discussed:
- Inventor kits
- Loanable technology (cameras, microphones, and more)
- 3D printers and scanners
- One Button Studio
- Audio/video recording and editing
- Virtual reality
- Gaming
- Laminators
