The Illinois State University Planetarium will present two different full-dome video shows on weekends through May 6.
Revealing Light’s Secrets: The Cosmic Origins Spectrograph, will run at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Flight Adventures will be shown at 2 p.m. Saturdays.
Revealing Light’s Secrets explores spectroscopy, the science of light. Viewers will discover how astronomers decipher clues in light from distant objects to study our universe. The show also highlights the research of the Cosmic Origin Spectrograph (COS), aboard the Hubble Space Telescope, the last instrument installed by the NASA astronauts. The COS gives an unprecedented view into the vast space between the Milky Way and the galaxies which surround us.
Flight Adventures allows guests to discover the science of flight through the eyes of a young girl and her grandfather as they explore how birds, kites, planes, and models fly. The show will highlight the history and future plans of flight, and how NASA is discovering new and safer ways to travel with the help of future engineers and aviators.
Admission to the Planetarium is $4 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and seniors, and $2 for children ages 3-4. The Planetarium is located under the white-domed roof at the eastern end of Felmley Hall of Science, at the intersection of School Street and College Avenue in Normal.
