Revitalize your course! This summer, find new and meaningful ways to engage your students. The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology, in partnership with several campus units, will once again offer a series of Course Design workshops. These multiple-day professional development opportunities will help you develop instructional skills with a stable cohort of colleagues. Course Design workshops provide a stipend to eligible participants.
Offerings this summer include:
- ReInvent Your Course for Diversity—Reflect on your course content and explore how that content can meet the needs of the diverse student population at Illinois State University. Incorporate strategies that create a culturally inclusive classroom climate, while facilitating conversations that challenge students’ ethnic and cultural assumptions.
- Design Your Course—Designed for faculty in their first three years of teaching at Illinois State, this workshop guides participants through a course design process that draws on the work of Dee Fink (Creating Significant Learning Experiences) and Ken Bain (What the Best College Teachers Do).
- Going Global with Your Course—Design or revamp your course to make it more globally engaged. Learn about common and effective approaches for creating global courses and become familiar with books, organizations, websites, and technological tools that can help you design or redesign your course.
- (Re)Design Your Course for Civic Engagement—Emphasize the value of citizenship, service learning, and civic engagement in your course. Identify civic competencies that connect with your discipline and course content, design a syllabus which includes civic engagement components, and develop a plan for a specific course assessment where students demonstrate some aspect of civic learning.
