Shari Zeck, associate dean in the College of Fine Arts, has been named interim dean of Illinois State University’s Milner Library, effective July 1. A search for a permanent dean is anticipated to begin in the 2018-2019 academic year.
Zeck replaces Dane Ward, who accepted a position as dean of libraries at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
Zeck came to Illinois State in 1992 to teach film in the School of Theatre and Dance. She began her administrative career as assistant to the dean in Fine Arts in 1997, where she also served as the first director of the program in arts technology. She began her present position as associate dean in 2009. She also directs the IT services in the College of Fine Arts.
After earning her undergraduate degree at Indiana University, Zeck earned a master’s and a doctorate from the University of Iowa in comparative literature and cinema studies. She has taught film and literature at Indiana University, the University of Iowa, Drake University, and Illinois State.
“Dr. Zeck has a comprehensive understanding of the Illinois State University and is dedicated to collaboration,” said Interim Provost Jan Murphy. “She deeply values the aspirations of Educating Illinois and I believe she will be a valuable asset to Milner Library.”
