The Illinois State University Planetarium will present Ring World, running weekends September 1-16. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays.
After a nearly seven-year journey, the two-stage Cassini-Huygens spacecraft began orbiting Saturn on July 1, 2004. Today Cassini continues to explore Saturn and its moons, during the spacecraft’s extended mission. Meanwhile, the Huygens probe soft-landed on Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, on January 14, 2005.
NASA plans a fiery end to Cassini by plunging the spacecraft into Saturn’s atmosphere on September 15. The Planetarium will take a look back at this incredible mission in an encore presentation of Ring World, narrated by Star Trek’s John Billingsley (Dr. Phlox on Star Trek: Enterprise)–now in full-dome video.
Admission to the Planetarium is $4 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and seniors, and $2 for children ages 3-4. The Planetarium is located under the white-domed roof at the eastern end of Felmley Hall of Science Annex, at the intersection of College Avenue and School Street in Normal.
