Sophomore standout Trent Wallace became the first men’s golfer to compete in the NCAA Division I championship since the ISU team qualified in 1975 under the leadership of D.A. Weibring ’75. He is only the second student-athlete in MVC history to reach the championship round as an individual.
Appears InWallace, who is from Joliet, entered the competition at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove as the No. 4 seed of the six individuals who qualified. He missed advancing to the final round by one stroke, finishing at even par.
Wallace made it to the NCAA championship by repeating as the MVC champion. He advanced from the NCAA West Regional at the Kampen Course on the Purdue University campus with a 1-over-par 217, despite battling 30 mph winds. He had the lowest score of all student-athletes who were not part of the top-five teams, placing seventh of the 75 competitors.
