JoAnna Stephens Mink, professor emerita of English from Minnesota State University, will present a talk titled “The War to End All Wars: Poetry and Painting from the Front” at 4:30 p.m. Friday, September 8, for the University Club in the Founders Suite of the Bone Student Center.
“The Poetry is in the pity [of War],” wrote Wilfred Owen, one of Britain’s foremost poets during World War I. Mink’s presentation traces the change in attitude towards the war through the words and paintings of poets and artists who served at “The Front” from 1914 through 1918. Their words and images transcend the horror of this event and resonate with today’s audience.
All faculty, staff, annuitants, and guests are welcome to attend the event. The Office of the Provost and the Office of the President provide continued program support. Snacks and refreshments will also be available.
