The Illinois State University Wind Symphony invites you to Music and Architecture on Sunday, October 22, at 3 p.m. in the university’s Center for the Performing Arts (CPA) Concert Hall. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for ISU faculty/staff, and $6 for students and seniors.
The program will feature the following compositions.
Featuring compositions by Gustav Holst, Roy Magnuson, Percy Grainger and Paul Hindemith.
Gustav Holst (1874-1934), ed. Matthews – First Suite in E-flat (1909)
Roy Magnuson (b. 1983) – The Golden Gray (2009)
Percy Grainger (1882-1961), ed. Rogers – Colonial Song (1919) and Shepherd’s Hey (1918)
Paul Hindemith (1895-1965), tr. Wilson – Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber (1943)
As part of the performance, special guest John Knuteson from GREC architects (Chicago, IL) will discuss the unique intersection of music and architecture, highlighting some of these phenomenon in the pieces performed.
Knuteson holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Virginia Tech, where he completed a semester in the Chicago Studio Program and internship at GREC. Following graduation, he moved to Chicago to join the GREC team.
Knuteson’s undergraduate thesis work focused on the role of drawing in the manifestation of architecture, and he has a strong interest in the intersection of art and architecture. He has been actively involved with the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology at Virginia Tech’s Center for the Arts. Outside of his architecture studies at Virginia Tech, he was also a clarinet player and drum major for the Marching Virginians, Tech’s collegiate marching band.
