Illinois State University’s Black Colleagues Association (ISUBCA) would like to thank fellow alumni for a memorable Homecoming weekend. Many travel to campus once a year to reconnect with old friends and connect to build relationships with fellow black alumni and students. ISUBCA continues to create a Homecoming tradition for everyone that attracts more ISUBCA alumni and friends each year with various opportunities. Alumni presence and support continues to allow ISUBCA to create and maintain a legacy that will continue to sustain and increase its scholarships.
This year alumni and students “dropped the mic” at open mic; alums and friends danced the night away at the Tailgate After Party; and the scholarship recipients’ videos were inspiring and moving at the annual brunch. Added bonuses included scholarship recipient Mariah Moran being crowned the 2017 Homecoming queen and several ISUBCA recipients making a gift to the ISUBCA scholarship efforts. Thanks goes out to ISUBCA Homecoming Chairs Terrence Seaphus ’82 and Lisa Miller ’93 and the committee. What amazing Redbird pride they have! Some of the buzz from the weekend:
“This year’s Homecoming events were awesome and created unbelievable energy. A visitor from St. Louis said to me he has never been to a college Homecoming where everyone was truly glad to see each other. My reply to him was we were and still are a family. Redbird nation stand up.”—Michael Thomas ’87
“The entire Homecoming weekend was phenomenal! Zion Banks and I had an absolute blast. I particularly enjoyed interacting with our young and talented ISU students on Friday night!”—Dennis Banks ’85
Although Homecoming is over, there is plenty alumni can do to stay involved with ISUBCA. Whether it’s planning the next ISUBCA Homecoming weekend or reaching out to a prospective student, ISUBCA needs you. Our mission is to support black students and alumni and, if you attended this year’s scholarship brunch, you heard from our scholarship recipients the impact the mission has had on them. The ISUBCA board of directors hopes to see all of you throughout the year at upcoming events, programs, and conversations.
Be sure to mark calendars for Homecoming 2018, October 8–14.
