The Xi Pi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) at Illinois State University’s Mennonite College of Nursing was pleased to welcome 37 new members at the induction ceremony on November 12 at the Alumni Center. The new members consisted of 33 undergraduate students and four graduate students.
Sigma—Global Nursing Excellence (formerly STTI) is the Honor Society of Nursing, and those who are members are provided with valuable resources throughout their nursing career, such as global connections with peers, opportunities for mentoring, and continuing education; members have the opportunity to make a difference in the future of healthcare.
The guest speaker at the ceremony was SeonYoon Chung, Ph.D., RN, who is an assistant professor at Illinois State University Mennonite College of Nursing. Her inspiring speech was titled The Connection between Honor, Courage, Love and Scholarship.
Undergraduate students must have completed half of the nursing curriculum, have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be ranked in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class. Graduate students are required to have completed a quarter of the nursing program and be in good standing in the graduate curriculum.
“It is a privilege to celebrate the students’ academic success and becoming members of this prestigious organization,” said Kim Schafer Astroth, president of the Xi Pi Chapter. “This is a very special ceremony for the Xi Pi community, and we are very grateful for the tremendous support of the students’ families and friends.”
