Illinois State’s Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning will host a film series every Monday in February starting from February 5. All the showings will take place in Stevenson 101 beginning at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Below is the schedule for the series:
- February 5: The Campaign (2012) – The Campaign is a political comedy starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. The movie revolves around the two men running for office, both of which leave no stone unturned to outdo the other. The facilitator will be Julian Westerhout, instructional assistant professor from Illinois State’s Department of Politics and Government.
- February 12: We Steal Secrets (2013) – Directed by Alex Gibney, We Steal Secrets is a documentary on Julian Assange, the Australian hacker-turned-activist who founded the WikiLeaks website in 2006. The movie has been highly acclaimed by film critics, but also received backlash owing to its sensitive material. The facilitator will be Associate Professor Lauren Bratslavsky from Illinois State’s School of Communication.
- February 19: Meet the Donors (2016) – Emmy award-winning director, Alexandra Pelosi takes viewers behind the scenes of political fundraising and interviews some of America’s ultra-rich political donors. The film is Pelosi’s tenth HBO documentary and offers a peek into the lifestyles of the rich and political. The facilitator will be Kerri Milita, assistant professor from Illinois State’s Department of Politics and Government.
- February 26: Selma (2014) – Directed by Ava DuVernay, Selma is a historical drama based on the 1965 equal voting rights movement led by the legendary Martin Luther King Jr. The facilitator will be Andrew Hartman, professor of history from Illinois State University.
