International students can get an overview of Optional Practical Training (OPT) Friday, January 26, from noon–1 p.m. in 110P Student Services Building. Learning about OPT is important, as it provides an opportunity for international students in F-1 status to receive up to 12 months of employment authorization in the United States after completing their academic studies.
At the first Career Series event attendees will also gain useful tips for how to navigate this semester’s career fairs, how to make a good first impression, and how to identify employers to meet. Students will be introduced to the Career Center resources that help international students who are looking for part-time and full-time employment and internships in the United States navigate the job search and interview process.
The International Student Career Series is hosted by the Career Center and International Student and Scholar Services in order to provide important information on resume crafting, job applications, and visa procedures for international students who wish to work in the U.S. The series will run from January to March during the spring 2018 semester. Note that attendees are NOT required to attend all sessions.
Navigating the job search in the USA can be extremely challenging for international students due to cultural differences and language barriers. However, accessing Career Center resources can help Global Redbirds gain confidence and learn how to build a successful career after graduation.
