A panel exploring “Black Politics in the Age of Trump” will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in the Rosa Parks Room of Watterson Towers residence hall at Illinois State University.

The event, sponsored by Illinois State’s African-American Studies program  and the Department of History, is free and open to the public.

Speakers will include Adrienne Dixson of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Cedric Johnson of the University of Illinois at Chicago, and activist Jason Lee. The event will include a reception, which will follow the panel discussion and Q&A.

Adrienne Dixson, Ph.D. speaking with Ed Week.

Dixson is a professor of critical race theory and education, whose scholarship examines race, class, and gender in urban educational contexts, with a particular interest in how these issues impact educational equity for students and people of color in the urban south. She is the author of several books, including Critical Race Theory and Education: All God’s Children Got a SongHandbook of Critical Race Theory and EducationResegregation of Schools: Education and Race in the 21st Century, and Researching Race in Education: Policy, Practice and Qualitative Research.

Cedric Johnson

Johnson, an associate professor of African American studies and political science, is also the editor of a collection of essays titled The Neoliberal Deluge: Hurricane Katrina, Late Capitalist Culture and the Remaking of New Orleans. The book won the W.E.B. DuBois Outstanding Book Award from the National Conference of Black Political Scientists. He is also the author of Revolutionaries to Race Leaders: Black Power and the Making of African American Politics.

Lee is an organizer, political strategist, researcher, and essayist with years of experience in organized labor, progressive politics, and black electoral politics.
