Illinois State University’s School of Music, in conjunction with the Illinois Shakespeare Festival and The Pantagraph, will present the 2018 Concerts on the Quad series.
Returning to the Quad this summer is the Ashley Lewis Band, Creole Stomp, and Switchback, with newcomers The BraziLionaires and Tom Studebaker, who will lead the annual tradition of Singing Under the Stars. The concert series is sure to offer something for everyone during this family friendly annual tradition at Illinois State.
All concerts begin at 7 p.m., are free and open to the public, and take place on the east side of Cook Hall (the Castle) on the Quad. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
July 2, Ashley Lewis Band
Be enthralled by the fiery mandolin, sparkling vocals, and profound songwriting of bluegrass artist Ashley Lewis.
July 9, Creole Stomp
Celebrate the return of one of the series’ most popular groups as they regale you with music from the Bayou.
July 16, Switchback
Listen to a unique blend of American Roots and Celtic soul driven by an exciting mix of mandolin, guitar, and bass.
July 23, Evening of Jazz: The BraziLionaires
Watch and listen to this hot and exciting Latin jazz group with their infectious blend of jazz, rock, and pop in their series debut.
July 30, Singing Under the Stars
Illinois State University faculty and guests sing favorites from the operatic and Broadway stages.
Concerts on the Quad is sponsored by the Mirza Fund of the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation, Fell Trust, the Town of Normal Harmon Arts Grant Program, and Debbie and Terry Lindberg.
In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be moved to the Concert Hall in the Center for the Performing Arts. The building is located on the southeast corner of the Quad, next to Williams Hall. Listen to radio stations WGLT (89.1 FM), WBNQ (101.5 FM), or WJBC (1230 AM) after 5 p.m. on concert days for announcements of site changes.
