As a thank you to loyal fans and supporters, Illinois State Athletics will host a free screening of the animated classic feature The Lion King on Friday, August 3, beginning at 7 p.m., at Hancock Stadium. The movie was selected via social media polls voted on by Redbird fans.
The Lion King was released in 1994 by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the 32nd Disney animated feature film, and the fifth animated film produced during a period known as the Disney Renaissance. With a worldwide gross of $766 million, The Lion King finished its theatrical run as the highest-grossing release of 1994, the second highest-grossing film of all time and the highest-grossing traditionally animated film of all time. The film features an ensemble voice cast that includes Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Moira Kelly, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg.
Gates to the stadium will open at 6:30 p.m., and moviegoers are asked to bring their blankets to sit on the turf (no chairs will be allowed) and grab their spot to watch the fan favorite on the Hancock Stadium scoreboard. Seating will also be available in the east and west bleachers of Hancock Stadium.
Concession stands on the east side of the stadium will be open and food will be available for purchase to eat in the east or west bleachers. No outside food or beverage will be allowed into Hancock Stadium. Free parking will also be available in lots adjacent to the stadium.
