Honors
David Kopsell, AGR, was recently elected the Education Division vice-president for the American Society for Horticultural Science. His candidacy was voted on by the society membership and announced at their national conference in July in Washington, D.C. Kopsell’s term will begin as VP-elect this coming year and continue as Education Division VP from 2019-2021. This position will advise and support the educational efforts of horticultural programs across the country.

Catherine O’Reilly, GEO, presented “Building diverse global datasets by building communities and networks” at the Ecological Society of America annual meeting in New Orleans.

Publications
Craig McLauchlan and Lisa Szczepura, CHE, along with graduate students Colleen Chin, Yixin Ren, Joan Berry, and Stanley Knott published “Small molecule activation of nitriles coordinated to the [Re6Se8]2+ core: formation of oxazine, oxazoline and carboxamide complexes” in Dalton Transactions. McLaughlan and Marjorie Jones co-authored “Evidence That Speciation of Oxovanadium Complexes Does Not Solely Account for Inhibition of Leishmania Acid Phosphatases” for Frontiers in Chemistry along with graduate student Benjamin Dorsey. McLauchlan also authored “Coordination environment changes of the vanadium in vanadium-dependent haloperoxidase enzymes” for the Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry with graduate students H.A. Murakami, Craig Wallace, and D.C. Crans.

Ali Riaz, POL, co-authored a paper in the journal Terrorism and Political Violence. The article, titled “Bangladeshi Militants: What Do We Know?” is co-authored with Saimum Parvez of the University of Sydney.
