Distinguished Professor Ali Riaz is quoted in a feature published in Aljazeera English about the ongoing ‘anti-drug’ operation in Bangladesh. The feature is titled ‘Are Bangladesh activists being killed amid the war on drugs?’
Since May, at least 200 people have been killed in the operation launched by the Bangladesh government. Human Rights activists in Bangladesh and various international Human Rights Organizations have described these deaths as ‘extrajudicial killings.’
“Fear has played a major role in devising this strategy,” said Riaz. “It sends a chilling message to everybody, including those within the political opposition, that you can be identified and killed, and no-one will be held accountable.”
