An ethnomusicology symposium at Illinois State University will explore music’s important role in making us fully human. The symposium will be held from 10-10:50 a.m. Monday, October 22, in the University’s Kemp Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Students in Professor Ama Oforiwaa Aduonum’s Introduction to Ethnomusicology class will share the results of their ethnographic field research in Bloomington-Normal and the Quad Cities. Students studied a number of issues including how middle school students perceive music in various settings, Christian music associated with campus ministries, and how listening to LGBTQ+ music and mainstream media representations affect the lives of queer individuals.
