Satadru Sengupta, the founder and CEO of Halos Insurance, will give a talk at 3:45 p.m. Monday, March 4, in Stevenson Hall, room 101, on the campus of Illinois State University.
An alumnus of Illinois State, Sengupta will talk about his endeavor creating an insurance company in the new InsurTech and FinTech world. The talk, sponsored by the Actuarial Program, is free and open to the public.
“With Halos Insurance, Satadru is developing a loss preventive insurance platform that complements reactive and rarely used insurance with a proactive, everyday solution that prevents and mitigates losses, leading to safer and better lives for consumers,” said Professor of Mathematics and Actuarial Program Director Krzysztof Ostaszewski. Halos started with MetLife Digital Accelerator, powered by Techstars, and then received funding from Plug and Play Ventures.
Previously, Sengupta built and ran the insurance practice at DataRobot—the pioneer of automated machine learning. A practicing data scientist for 12 years, he led the Global Distribution Analytics at AIG Science Team, and worked with Liberty Mutual Insurance and Deloitte Consulting, before joining DataRobot in 2015.
Sengupta holds a master’s degree in statistics from George Washington University and a master’s degree in mathematics from Illinois State University. He is also CSPA designee from Casualty Actuarial Society.
