The Illinois State women’s tennis team (20-7, 5-0) wrapped up a historic spring season that saw them finish the dual season with 20 or more wins, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since 2010. The Redbirds won a share of the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title, going a perfect 5-0 during the conference slate. ISU went on to capture the MVC tournament trophy at the end of April as well, punching a ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005. Their season would ultimately come to an end in Los Angeles in the first round of the tournament, after falling to host No. 13 USC.
“This is a special group and I couldn’t be more proud of them,” said head coach Maja Kovacek. “It was a great learning experience, and I know these kids are motivated and excited to do whatever it takes to be in the same position next year.”
