Alumni guests Randy Gibson and Alana McGinty will take part in the panel discussion, Peace Corps, Then and Now, at 10 a.m. Friday, October 25, in Stevenson Hall, room 401.
Having each served in the Peace Corps in two very different times and places, the discussion will reflect these various experiences. Gibson served in Tehran, Iran, as a handcrafts designer/teacher from 1973-1974. McGinty was a Peace Corps volunteer in South Africa from 2011-2013.
Gibson graduated from Illinois State University in 1996 with a master’s degree in political science with an emphasis in community and economic development. He retired in 2017 from his position as a branch chief in planning and performance management with the USDA Farm Service Agency in Washington, D.C.
McGinty graduated with a double degree in sociology and political science in 2010. She then earned a master’s degree in international development from American University. McGinty is currently a grants and contracts associate at DAI Global. She believes in the power of the global community to affect development outcomes and is focused on advancing gender equality and using digital tools for development.
This unique panel discussion with Q & A is hosted by the Stevenson Center and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Light refreshments will be served.
