The Center for Community Engagement and Service learning is hosting a free breakfast event on Tuesday, October 22, to explore elements of successful campus-community partnerships and to facilitate discussions between Illinois State faculty/staff and representatives from community organizations.
The event will begin with a look at the Principles of Partnership, a position statement created by Community-Campus Partnerships for Health. The 12 guiding principles in the statement offer insight useful for a wide variety of campus-community partnerships.
“The Principles of Partnership provide great guidance on how we can develop mutually beneficial and reciprocal campus-community partnerships,” said Harriett Steinbach, interim director of the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning. “I’m really excited to share these principles with both faculty/staff and community partners, and I’m looking forward to the learning opportunities we will all have through our shared discussion.”
The Principles of Partnership breakfast will also feature a panel presentation and roundtable discussions. Panelists will represent two existing campus-community partnerships: Physics Day programming at the Children’s Discovery Museum (Jay Ansher, Department of Physics, and Rachel Carpenter, Children’s Discovery Museum) and America’s Promise Schools Project (Carla Pohl, Mennonite College of Nursing, and Susy Marcum, Unit 5 School District).
“This program will provide an opportunity for faculty/staff and partners to better understand the principles, reflect on current and future partnerships, learn about other campus-community partnerships, and brainstorm and network with each other,” said Steinbach. “Ultimately, these kinds of conversations will advance the relationship Illinois State University has with the community.”
Registration is required for the Principles of Partnership breakfast, and the deadline to register is October 15. The event will take place in the Old Main Room at the Bone Student Center on October 22, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.
