The following are career and award updates from outstanding students across the Department of Educational Administration and Foundations’ graduate programs.
Armen Alvarez was promoted to the position of regional coordinator for trauma education programs for the American College of Surgeons in Chicago. She previously served as the membership recruiting specialist at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in Rosemont. Álvarez is a doctoral student in the department’s P-12 CPED Administration Ed.D. program.
Terrance Bond was promoted to the position of associate dean of students, equity, compliance, and achievement at Heartland Community College (HCC) in Normal. He previously served as associate director of equity, compliance, and title IX at HCC. Bond is a doctoral student in the department’s higher education administration Ph.D. program.
Carla Boyd was promoted to assistant vice president of student services at Danville Area Community College by its board of trustees. She previously served as the assistant dean of student services and the chief diversity officer (CDO). She will retain the duties she held as CDO in her new position. Boyd is a doctoral student in the department’s higher education administration Ph.D. program.
Robert Braswell was promoted to senior associate dean of students at the University of North Texas (UNT) in March 2019. He previously served as UNT’s assistant director for community standards in the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Braswell is a doctoral student in the department’s higher education administration Ph.D. program.
Michelle Cornell received the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Leadership Award in recognition of her efforts at the state and regional levels. In addition, she recently became one of the nation’s first certified financial aid administrators. Cornell also earned a Sustained Service Award by the Illinois Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and served as the organization’s president last year as it celebrated its 50th anniversary of service to the field. Cornell is a doctoral student in the department’s higher education administration Ph.D. program.
Shaun N. Crisler was hired as Suny Oswego ’s vice president for residence life and housing in July 2019. Crisler previously served as the associate director of human resources, inclusion, and communication in the Office of Residence Life at Syracuse University. He is a doctoral student in the department’s higher education administration Ph.D. program.
Michelle Hassan was hired as the executive director of high schools for Peoria School District 150. She previously served as a principal for Maywood District 89. Hassan was also awarded the Illinois Principal Association Middle School Principal of the Year award for the West Cook region. Hassan is a doctoral student in the department’s P-12 CPED Administration Ed.D. program.
Julie Stoll was promoted to assistant principal at Hammitt Junior-Senior High School in Normal in July 2019. She previously served as the supervisor of clinical and education services at Hammitt. Stoll is a master’s student in the department’s P-12 education administration principal preparation program.
