The sounds of young children’s civic inquiry will be the topic of a talk by Jon M. Wargo.
An assistant professor in the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College, Wargo will give the talk “Sonic Civics, Heard Histories: Towards a ‘Sound’ Theory of Young Children’s Making” at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 30, at the Alumni Center at Illinois State University. The talk is free and open to the public.
Wargo will explain how young children ‘made’ a difference through digital technologies and project-based learning in the social studies. This presentation explores the audible contours of inquiry and social action in an elementary classroom.
As an educational scholar who attends closely to qualitative research methods, Wargo engages in ethnographic, design-based, and multimodal methodologies to examine how participatory media mediates contemporary conceptions of civic and social education.
