Dr. Xueying Yu of Beihang University in China will present “Dynamics of Environmental Policy Making in China” on Thursday, February 20, at 2 p.m. in Stevenson Hall, room 347B, on the Illinois State University campus. This lecture is free and open to the public.
Yu’s research involves finding optimal institutional designs that promote pro-environmental behaviors. She is currently a Fulbright Scholar at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
China is a major contributor to both global economic growth and environmental challenges, and Yu will introduce how China has developed and utilized regulatory tools to combat environmental hazards over the past three decades. Yu will lecture on the structure of China’s political system, actors involved in environmental policy-making and implementation, and key regulatory approaches. Discussion on individual policies will be focused on those policies that target air pollution, forest degradation, and climate change.
Yu’s visit was initiated by Illinois State University’s Department of Economics Visiting Assistant Professor Eric Lenz. “Dr. Yu’s visit will provide our students with an international perspective on global climate agreements and China’s environmental and regulatory policy relative to the United States,” said Lenz.
This presentation is conducted through the Fulbright Scholar Program’s Outreach Lecturing Fund (OLF), in collaboration with Illinois Wesleyan University. Illinois State University hosts of the speaker include the Office of International Studies and Programs, the Department of Economics, Institute for Regulatory Policy Studies, and the Department of Health Sciences.
